Samuel was a veteran of the Civil War, company K, 63rd. Rgt., OVI served under Cpt. C. W. McGinnis from 9 Oct. 1861 to 7 Nov 1862. Samuel had chronic diarrhea during his service days. He must have had this problem until he died sa that is what he died from.
Copy of marriage license of Samuel and Sarah HIETT in Robert McGinnis's possession. Married 3 June 1863. They were married in Auglaize Co., OH.

The date of birth for Sarah was determined from her death certificate of which her daughter, Lulu, was the informant. Born 25 Feb 1841.
The 1850 BYRD TWP Brown Co., OH shows Sarah at home with her mother and father and her 9 brothers and sisters, her age is 9 years old. Several of her own signatures, documents and the Brown Co. census of 1850 reveal her middle initial as R not N as often given in previous records.

Records in possession of above. 1880 and 1910 Census report, Concord Twp. Ross Co., OH shows her residence as Church St., Frankfort. She was born in South Salem, OH. Certificate of death shows she died of malnutrition, Hillsboro, Co., OH. DOD is 15 Oct 1950, she is buried in Greenlawn Cem., Frankfort. There were 2 obituaries. She never married.
On pg. 471, HH book, volume I, comment is that "all dead."

prob. Identical with Arabellis Eleanor (“Nellie”). Hiett; Isabell b. c1845, Brown CO., Ohio; Nellie m. THOMAS McGRIMES; no children. (R88).Arabellis Eleanor or Nellie were also names found for Isabell. They had no children.
Samuel Gilbert was apparently known by his middle name, Gilbert. Samuel
was the name of his grandfather Hiett as well as his father's older brother,
who died just two years before he was born; his uncle probably died from wounds or illness contracted in the Civil War. Gilbert was his grandmother's maiden name.
Death notices in the Ripley Bee indicate that: Gilbert married Nettie
Johnson, daughter of Captain Johnson.

In the 1960's Orveda Fichter remembered that Gilbert had a son who
died young and a daughter named Elizabeth who was a nun with the Sisters of the Rosary in Summit, New Jersey. In April 1989, I spoke to Orveda's daughter who said she just got a letter from Elizabeth Hiett who is a nun in the Phillipines and "must be in her eighties." Orveda said that Gilbert was a postmaster.
