John Little, a Representative from Ohio; born near Grape Grove, Ross Township, Greene Co., Ohi, April 25, 1837; attended the common schools, and was graduated from Antioch College, Yellow Springs, Ohio, in 1862; studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1865, and commenced practice in Xenia, Ohio; mayor of Xenia 1864-1866; prosecuting attorney of Greene County 1866-1870; member of the State house of representatives 1869-1873; attorney general of Ohio 1873-1877; elected as a Republican to the Forty-ninth Congress (March 4, 1885 - March 3, 1887).; resumed the practice of law; appointed by President Harrison a member of the United States and Venezuela Claims Commission in 1889 and was its chairman; member of the Ohio State Board of Arbitration trustee of Antioch College 1880-1900; died in Xenia, Ohio, October 18, 1900; interment in Woodland Cemetery. Asa Little - b. June 18, 1845, Ross Twp.; treasurer of Greene Co.; attended public schools of native twp.; later taking a special course at Antioch College in Yellow Springs; finished schooling at age of 18. Taught several years in Greene and Madison Cos. Later engaged in grain business at Jamestown, Xenia and Yellow Springs. County treasurer in 1898, to continue until Sptember 1904. Asa was an Old Fellow, Republican, and belonged to the Christian Church; m. 1865 Margaret Moorman, d/o Charles T. And Matilda. Two children, Arthur Ward, d. age 13, and C. H., wholesale grain business in Xenia. (R130).
