Notes

Richard HAINES

Richard farmer, of Evesham Twp., Burlington Co., N.J. Bapt. St. Michael's
Church, Aynhoe.  Northamptonshire, England, Aug 6, 1665; d. 1746; m. Mary
Carlile, said to have been an Indian maiden, and also said to have been born
in London, 5 mo. (july) 20, 1674; daughter of John and Mary (Goodwin) Carlile.  Since the identity of Mary Carlile has caused much controvresy, this subject will be discussed more fully elsewhere in this volume.  The date of their marriage is also uncertain.  In the Haines Ancestry it is stated that the marriage took place in 1699.  In Virkus, the date is given as 1691.  Since no record of a marriage has ever been found, it is difficult to establish a date.  However, Richard and Mary Hianes were witnesses to the marriage of Francis Austin and Mary Borton on 7 mo (Sept) 15, 1696, at Friends Meetings.  Haddonfield.
Richard Haines located 100 acrees of land in 1688; he purchased 100 acres of land from Elias and John Nurling in 1693, 100 acres of land from Thomas Haines in 1695 and 100 acres of land from Francis Collins in 1700.  He was one of the purchasers of the "Friendship Tract" 2240 acres of farm and wood land in the Southern Part of New Jersey in 1711.  His will was dated Dec 17, 1744, and was probated Apr 12, 1746.  An inveentory of his personal property was taken on 2 mo (Apr ) 11, 1746.  He named his wife Mary and his daughter, Elizabeth Newbury, as executors, but the will was probated by Elizabeth Newbury, surving executrix, which place the death of Mary Haines between Dec 17, 1744 and April 12, 1746.
A record of the dates of birth of the children of Richard and Mary Haines has not been found.  The order of birth is not certain either, but it is
believed that the order in which the children are names in the will is
correct.  This assumption is born out in part by the dates of marriage of
the various children.

Richard HAINES

Richard Haines sailed from Downs, England 4-23-1682.  He died at sea and
Margaret gave birth to their sixth child, Joseph, while at sea.

Clarence Ishmael (Joe) CONYERS

The name the family knew Clarence by was "Joe", no one seems to remember
how he got this name.
The obituary of Clarence listed the following step-children: Mrs. Richard
Stiffler, of Tampa, Florida;  Mrs. Melville Cole, of Orlando, Florida, Mrs.
Robert Shaw, of Muncie, Ind., Mrs. Donald Hobbs, of Muncie, Ind; Mrs. Charles
Conn, of Muncie, Ind.; Mrs. Earl Smith, of Muncie, Ind.; and one step-son
Herbert Davis, of Muncie, Ind.  They were the children of Sharlet by a previous marriage.
The obituary of Rena May (Baker) Conyers, listed a daughter, Doris Doogan,
as having died in December 1964.  This is presumed to be a child from a
previous marraige, as no family members recall Clarence having a daughter by
that name.
Clarence lived most of his life in Muncie, Ind.   He was a retired employee of the Delaware Trucking Company and was a member of the Teamsters, Local 135 of Marion, Ind.
Rena May was a native of Henry County, Ind. and had resided in Daleville,
Ind., 20 years prior to moving to Muncie, Ind.  She had been employeed at the
Ball Brothers factory at Muncie, Ind. for 7 years.
