Report of findings by Opal Lousin. This is the line of Opal Anderson
Lousin. George was in the Kansas 6th Cav. Co. M GAR veteran. Served two times in the Civil War. Stayed in the general area of Blockton, Iowa.Is found int he 1880 census with his family, Hollenberg, Washington Co., Ks.
From notes of Opal Lousin, 3 Dec 1992 ... "My grandfather was in the Civil War in the Missoui Cavalry and was discharged in December 1862. He was married in August 1863 in Worth County, Mo., and enlisted in the 6th Kansas Cavalry (more later about this), and went in December 1863 until his discharge when the war was over in Ft. DuFalls Bluff, ?, Arkansas. Then he gave his home address as Maryville, Mo. and his birthplace as Jefferson Co., Iowa, not showing County vs. town (could not have been town). He was 18 when he married with Rosa's consent, the form has disappeared from their file between when Beulah saw it and when I lookded for it at the Worth County seat in Sheidan, Mo.
Larry, in your computer please take off Robert Anderson as being brother to our Allen and George. That was my doing when I found a Robert Anderson mixed into the Anderson's in the Quaker records and thought it belonged to our family. Only Susanna, Allen, Daniel C., and George are chldren of Elijah and Rosa Bray Anderson. Also you have duplicated William Patrick lineage. You can add my granddaughter, Elizabeth Mirza's name now instead of "Child". Albert Anderson was Albert Leslie Anderson. I did not know his name was Albert. You have duplicated Mary Anderson Little instead. I caught these only in glancing over your lists. Evidently you got your information from Beulah West. I did not know all of those names that well.
NOTE from Opal 3 Dec 1992. ...."My grandparents, George and Cynthia
(Sintha) lived for awhile in Washington Co., Kansas because their son Frederick Edgar who was b. 1869 d. Aug. 8. 1881 and was buried there. Also in the census record my Aunt Doll was shown as being born in Kansas and that was about 1880.From letter to Marjorie (Anderson) Metzger 1971 from Opal
Rosa gave permission for George to marry at the age of 18 while he was in
Worth Co., MO. It was between two periods of service in the Civil war. Opal
writes, .."My cousin found this permit in a box at the Court House. They had
never gotten around to filing it! My grandfather gave his home address as
Maryville, Missouri, when he re-enlisted in 1863 so I assume he must have been on his own even at the time of his first enlistment in 1861 and chose to live in Missouri. After 1865 he lived in Ringgold Co., Iowa. I saw the deed to the small farm which does not indicate how he had acquired the farm but I presume it was by homesteading as I think if he had received it for his service, it would have shown on the deed.
I have checked his army records which are skimpy because they were forced
to evacuate their camp hurriedly and all records were burned. He used to tell mother that he was captured and was in Libby Prison. From his record I cannot find him missing from service roll call sufficient length of time to indicate this, nor does it show on his record. He may have been captured but he was only missing from roll call about two months. I think he was supposed to have been shot through the lung but that does not show either. He got some pension as did his widow for a short period of time.Clinton Twp. Ringgold Co., Iowa July 14, 1870 Vol 132, pg. 1121 #38

Albert L. 2/13/1886Dated July 5, 1898 by George R. Anderson. He had married on August 6, 1863 to Cynthia Ann Williams at Worth Co., Mo. by N.H. DeWitt J.P. George Anderson had served from April 5, 1862 to April 25, 1863 in Company "E" Missouri Cavalry 4th, private and from July 27, 1863 to July 18, 1865 as private in Co. "M" 6th Regiment of Kansas Cavalry, being discharged at Fort DeValls Bluff, Arkansas; was 5 ft. 7 1/2 inches, light complextion; blue eyes, light hair; a farmer.
Then he said he was born June 10, 1845 in Jefferson Co., Iowa. (obituary shows differently).
Hi Larry,
Attached are jpgs of two more drawings made from photos that Opal sent to me when she and Max moved about 2001. These had been rescued from the Patrick House in Blockton in the early 1960s???
*Thomas Anderson transferred to backing labeled "Thomas Anderson age 24 1896?" actually would have been 26 in 1896.
*A jpg of the large charcoal drawing on thick cardboard of George Riley and Cynthia estimated late1890s made from tintype photos (Opal's notes)
The family history document is what I have on the Andersons from the earliest John and Ann Anderson in Delaware to their son Eli (Elijah that Patrick and I have labeled SR), his children (all) plus Allen Richard (your line) and George Riley (our line--My cousin Patrick and I are both working on Cora Anderson Patrick's branches). You will find we don't have a lot on Elijah's other children.
Patrick has looked over the George Riley Anderson image and agree on George, his wife Cynthia and our great-grandmother Cora (later Patrick) but are guessing on the rest of the children--depending on when the photo was taken. Do you think the older woman in the middle with the hat is Rosa Bray Anderson?
Ginny
Do you think Opal's daughters might have her documents? They had two girls but I don't have their names--they were all living in the Chicago area in the 1970s and 80s.Hi Larry,
Opal wrote mostly to my mother, Alice, after my grandmother (Beaulah Patrick West) died in 1983.
I found the letter with the photos she had sent to my mother.... (my mistake--Mom gave me her mother's records and Opal's letters/ copies of obits/ the photos about ten years ago).--Opal had a note at the top of the page "These were in Anderson house when Ted (Tad?) had my brother sell of the junk in it. They survived the fire as you can see the water marks."
Opal wrote: "It seems to be ink/ pencil drawings of my grandparents ( note: George Riley and Cynthia Anderson) and the other of my father (Thomas Anderson). I know the letter was from a picture of him and my mother about the time of their marriage in 1896 (Opal's parents). I think my grandfather's was from a tin type** but I do not have the picture from which my grandmother's was taken.
They were married in August 1863, I think. Your mother (Beaulah Patrick West) found the form his mother had signed giving her permission for him to marry at age 18****"
Ginny
**Larry the photo of George R in his Union soldier outfit I sent you yesterday is the jpg of the photo I took from the tin type that Gma West had in it's original case.
***My cousin Patrick has found in the Patrick Anderson papers our Gma West gave to his mother. I have the records she gave my mother plus my original typed information from Gma's records (she obtained from Opal). Patrick is going to make a pdf copy of the marriage permission form for me (and I will send a copy to you.JAMES ANDERSON 5 GENERATIONS FAMILY HISTORY 4/19/09 2:08 PM (CDT)
