Virgil DeVaul Hiatt
Capt. Virgil DeVaul Hiatt, USMC, retired, 72, Lincoln, died Friday (4/8/2005). Born and raised in Rosebud, SD, May 4, 1932, to Virgil R. and Alice M. (Leighton) Hiatt.Following graduation from Emadow Grove HS, Virgil enlisted in the US Marine Corps, retiring in 1970 at the rank of Captain. He served in both the Korean War and Vietnam conflicts. During his second career with the Department of Labor, he held positions in Norfolk, Nebraska City, Fremont and the Lincoln admninistrative office. He was an active participant in these local communities and in the professional organization of the department. At retirement in 1993, he held the position of personel. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, auto racing and most importantly, being surrounded by his family and friends.
Virgil helped found hte Norfolk Composite Squadron of the Nebraska WIng of the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of the American Legion Post #3, Lincoln Masaic Lodge #55 AF & AM, Norfolk Lakota Warrior Rosebud, SD. The International Association of Workforce Professionals (IWOP).
Survivors: Wife, Joan "Laurie", son, daughter-in-law. mark and Kathie, Lincoln, Amy and Lasher, Lexington, KY, formerly Lincoln, granchildren, Grace Marie, Christopher Lasher, brother, sister in law, Fred and Janis, Lincoln; sister, Helen Long Soldier, Lincoln; many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents.
Services 2 pm, Tuesday, Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 2. 14th St. Pastor Gretchin R. Naugle. Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation: 9 am, until service Tuesday, all funeral home.
