In 1950 a grandson, Walter H. Hiatt (R116). wrote: “As far as I know they came in covered wagons from Virginia to Ogden Ind then to Richmond Ind and from there to Plainfield Ind. Jessie Hiatt had four brothers.
“We are Quakers had birthrights in the Friends Church at Plainfield Ind. Jessie was an elder in the church and a special chair and sat on the alter with the minester. Jessie also taught Sunday School. They were both very religious people Grandma wore the black bonnett and the (y). went church on Wednesday and Sunday with out fail. She observed the Sabbeth no cooking on Sunday that was all don(e). Saturday was a day of rest.” (R116).
