MANSFIELD -- Former Mansfield resident John Eugene Spicer, 75, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 1996, in Galveston, Texas.
He was born March 8, 1920, in Mansfield to Benjmain Harrison and Theresa Wappner Spicer.
A graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, Mr. Spicer worked as a draftsman for a few years before he volunteered to serve in the Navy during World War II.
He retired from the Navy in 1963 with 20 years of meritorious service. He then joined the Postal Service and retired after 20 years.
He was a member of the Naval Fleet Reserve and Eagles Lodge 366. He was a Lutheran.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Emma Spicer of Galveston; two daughters, Donna Mulidore of Kansas and Mary Clark of Missouri; three sons, Benjamin Spicer of Galveston, Charles Spicer of Oregon and Robert Spicer of Michigan; 11 grandchildren; sex great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Esther and Ed Eicher of Mansfield, and Susie and Dick Danals of Colorado; a brother, Jack Spicer of Mansfield; and other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Dies in Fall Down Stairs
John W. Spicer, 60, Killed at Son’s Home; Found Dead With Broken Neck.
Falling down stairs last night while alone at the home of his son, two miles east of the city on the Wooster road, John W. Spicer, 60, died of a broken neck.
Mr. Spicer’s body was found at the foot of the stairway by his son, Lelyn Spicer, who returned home about 9 p.m.
The son and other members of the family had left the house early last evening. The father had been sleeping at the time they left.
Sheriff E.P. Long and Coroner Hugh C. Winbigler were notified, and upon investigation the coroner pronounced death due to a broken neck. He said the man had been dead about two hours when he was found.
Born at St. Louisville OH, Nov. 22, 1874, Mr. Spicer came to Mansfield 33 years ago. He was employed as electrician at the Empire Sheet and Tin Plate Company for a number of years.
Surviving are his son; one sister, residing at Utica OH , and two granddaughters.
Private funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Finefrock funeral home, with Dr. H.S. Garnes, Pastor of the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Mansfield Cemetery .
