This was confirmed in the probate court records of Vestal Coffin, dec., by Anna who said they arrived in Oregon about Sep. 10, 1852. Occupation: 1850 The 1850 Census for Wapello, IA lists the occupation of Vestal W. Coffin as a physician. Event: Comment: A V. W. Coffin of Empire, Coos Co., OR, also sometimes known as N. H. Coffin in the records, was named as a county commissioner of Coos Co., OR when it was formed by Legislative Act in 1853. Empire was the original county seat of Coos Co. Event: Comment: Dr. V. W. Coffin and Dr. J.H. Foster reportedly went to the Gold Mines with a Capt. Harris & named the boom town Randolph, after the noted Virginian named Randolph. Randolph was located on the N. side of the Coquille River.
