Enlisted with CSA, Co. A, 2nd Infantry Battn, Reg. NC on 4 May 1861 with his brother Floyd and along with their brother Jesse, were able to stay together most of the time during the war.

Enlisted with CSA, Co. A, 2nd Infantry Battn, Reg. NC on 4 May 1861 with his brother Floyd and along with their brother Jesse, were able to stay together most of the time during the war.


Floyd OWENS

Enlisted CSA, Co. A, wnd Infantry Battn, Reg. NC on 4 May 1861.. On 8 Feb 1862, he was captured at Roanoke Island along with serveral other family members.  He was paroled on the 21st of Feb 1862 at Elizabeth City, NC.  He and the other family members then enlisted with Co. H, 23rd Battn, Reg. VA on 1 Apr 1863.  He fought at Gettysburg, PA, And Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, and Petersburg in VA. He and the other family members are listed with both regiments at the same time but he finished the war listed with the 2nd Battn. NC listed as Distinguished Service.  the men from this unit in Stokes Co. were known as sharp shooters.  He enlisted with his brother William, Jesse enlisted a year later....Jesse may have died around 1863....he does not show up in the 1870 census...
