Michael MEGGINSON

Entailed Lands Released 1718. Hening.  Vol. 4 p75  April 1718. "An act to enable Michael Megginson of the County of King and Queen,  to sell certain Lands in the County of Gloucester, entailed on him,  and the heirs of his body, upon his settling other Lands of a greater value to the same uses".  In LAWS OF VIRGINIA,  APRIL 23 TO JULY 10, 1718:  Whereas Michael Meggison ( note the different spelling) Alledged that John Meggison His father willed him 130 acres in the Parish of Abingdon in the County of Glochester, and that he would like to swape this land for 500 acres in the Parish of Saint John in the County of King William.  The court gave to the said Michael Meggison, otherwise called Michael Mixen, 250 acres on Boot Swamp, a part of the 500 acres requested.  A Pattent dated Aug 16, 1715 was given.  ( Land Patent Books, Land Office at Richmond)    To Michael Mixen, 50 shillings, 500 acres lying on south side of Boot Swamp, adjoining Col. Jennings...St.Johns Parish..King William County,  bounded by Major Bartelott.. (Just a few years later this part of KW was cut off into Caroline County).  Diaries of George Washington, vol. III, p.87 April 1,1787 "At home all day (Mount Veron). Mr. Hunter, MrRuney, Mr Porter, Dr Craik, and a Capt Mixon dined here. All except Mr. Hunter went away after it."

John MEGGINSON

Marshall Megginson BK # 58  has discovered documentation in Canterbury England That a John Megginson, a mariner died in 1671/2. Possibly in war with the Dutch.  In Dutch History it was known as the English War 1669/70. Records also show that a John Megginson was an officer on the "Orange", a sailing ship that brought people to Virginia.  On at least two occasions 1636 &1642, John was given a warrant for 50a of land in Virginia for transporting potential settlers.  Elizabeth Montgomery Arceneaux Has found evidence that William Megginson’s father was Michael Megginson bMaryland and moved to VA at a young age. Michael’s father was John Megginson b England and came to America abt 1665 m1665 Jane Shears in Maryland Janes’s father was Joseph Shears.  John’s father was Thomas Megginson b. England and probably died in England.  Marshall Megginson BK # 58 suggest this  scenarrio: John the Mariner Megginson or Mixon b.1655 and his wife had 5 children: Michael b.1677 (Father of William the Elder Megginson),  John b.1680 & William b.1683 (Ancestors of the Southern Mixons), Matthew b.1685, Mary b. 1687.  Records From Ireland: Index to Grant Books and Original Wills of the Diocese of Dublin. (1653)  John Mixon, Died intestate. (Court records pertaining to this estate were destroyed by fire in Dublin about 1921.)  Parish Register, Agington, Gloucester:  p37 John Mixon inventory, Onlsow Precent, Taken 27 Feb 1733-4 by John Starkey admr, Attested before Abram. Mitchell 29 Dec 1734  p122: Mixon, Jane, daughter of John and Grace Mixon, was baptized Dec. 1, 1693.  Records of Colonial Gloucester, Mason, Vol. 1, p15 :  Gloucester Rent Roll, Abingdon Parish,  1704-5 John Mixon, 400 acres; Part 11, p54, Gloucestertowne, 1707 (62 lots and their owners listed)  JOHN MIXON, LOT 11. Mixon, John, son of John and Grace Mixon, was born Feb 14, 1680/81, and was baptized shortly after.
