History of Catoosa County says that James M. SHIELDS, 31 in 1850, had a wife named Cealy, 37.  I am showing now that James Monroe SHIELDS (whom I show as the son of Robert SHIELDS and Margaret Emmert) was born 1819 (wouild be 31 in 1850) was married to Cecila Elizabeth Jones b. 1813 (would be 37 in 1850).  Celia could well be Cealy.  I show as my source for this as Randolph SHIELDS.

I show James Monroe SHIELDS and Celia Elizabeth Jones had William W. b. 1842 in TN, Elizabeth C., b. 1845 in TN, James Monro b. 1847, TN., d. 1926 in Georgia.  John L. SHIELDS b. 1851 in Georgia and Margaret Caldonia SHIELDS b. 1856 Georgia.  Tihs would indicate that James and Celia moved to Georgia between 1847 and 1851.  I do not show a source for these people.

I show also that James Monroe SHIELDS b. 1847 is the father of Dr. Harold Franklin SHIELDS.  The History of Catoosa County shows that James Monroe SHIELDS was teh father of Dr. Frank SHIELDS. I show a number of descendants of James M. SHIELDS b. 1847, down to some folk who were born in teh 1950's.

My question:  If these people are not descended from Robert and Nancy Emmert SHIELDS, where do they belong?

Did I mention before that the history of Catoosa Co. also mentions a Carlock family. It seems David Carlock of Catoosa Co. married a Sarah SHIELDS, but it does not further identify her.  THey had six children, of whom four are identified.  I hvae no idea who these people are.  I would appreciate any help or guidance you might given

All I know is James Monroe SHIELDS, Sr. b. 1819, was my GG Grandfather .. He came to Walker Co., GA with Robert R. SHIELDS .. veteran of the War of 1812.  His wife, Celia Jones and children up to that date .. Walker Co. info says from McMinn Co., TN .. however, I hvae been unable to date to find either SHIELDS mentioned before 1850 in McMinn Co.  I did fidn the marriage bonds of James Monroe SHIELDS and Celia Jones in Blount Co., TN library showing Sevier Co, TN.  SO James lived in that area at the time of marriage.

My problem is who was his father and who is Robert Richard SHIELDS, b. 1792?  Thanks, hope this helps, Judi

Robert, son of Richard of the 10 is definitely buried in the Cade's cove Primitive Baptist Chruch Cemetery.  I have a picture of his grave stone.  NOt only that, he appears in the Blount Co., TN census of 1830, 1840 and 1850. His age in the 1850 census is given as 68 which would have made his birth year around as 1782, NOT 1792, as was the Georgia RObert.  Other recorsd show his death in 1850.  He ddied on his home place.  Plus, there is no meniton of any service for him in the War of 1812.

His wife, Margaret apparently went to live with their son, George W. in Murray Co. GA, not Catoosa Co., GA.  She died therein 1862, margaret doesn't appear in the Bloundt Co., TN, 1850 Census, so maybe she was visiting in GA before his death, and just stayed there.  Three other of their children followed her there after Robert's death.
