Notes from Occupation event: Engineer C.R.R. Railroad
Benjack was killed in Mississippi sometime after 1902 in Mississippi of a gunshot in an argument over a "coon" dog. He went out to Mississippi sometime at the beginning of the century with Bose, Beauregard and his family to buy cheap land. Bose and Beauregard came back to Georgia. We have always assumed Ben Jack stayed as that is where he was killed. I do not know if his wife and children accompanied him or not. In the 1898-99 city directory Ben Jack's wife is shown as Clara and in the 1900 city directory she is shown as Genie. I believe her real name was Clara Eugenia. We have a picture of an "Aunt Genie" with Bose, Lish, and Foundlan.
In the 1910 Census, Clara E. Moore, (with 3 children) was residing at 1114 18th St. In the 1916 Columbus City Directory, Genia Moore (widow of Benjamin) was residing at 1114 18th St. In earlier directories, when Benjamin was alive, she was shown as Clara. There is an Aunt Genie among the Moore pictures and I believe this was Ben Jack's wife. I know Clara and Genia are the same people and this is Ben Jack's widow. In the 1920 census she was living at 1316 18th St. alone. She was a big woman according to the picture as she towered over Foundlan who as short. Her boys Collin and Hallon, according to the 1910 census, both worked as blacksmiths on the railroad.
