__________
In a letter from Charles Baker, (R.R. 1 Box 67, Taylor AR 71861),
dated
2/5/1997, he says:
"I have come to believe that John A Baker's father was John Baker,
the
son of the older Absalom Baker who died about 1777 in Rowan County,
N.C.
He had several children, among them John, Christopher, Joshua,
Absalum,
Benjamin, Samuel, and Greenberry. John and Absalum both went to
Elbert
County, Georgia.
I base my belief on the fact that the John Baker in Elbert County
married
Susannah Armstrong, daughter of William Armstrong of Halifax County,
Virginia. On July 9, 1792 John Armstrong Baker bought land in Elbert
County "163 acrs adj. Absalom Baker." Thereafter he signed deeds both
as
John Armstrong Baker and John A. Baker. This is all circumstantial,
of
course, but it seems to make a connection. Do you know of anything
that
would conflice with this?"
