Entered service 15 Oct 1864. He suffered a gunshot wound in the thigh sometime before entering a Richmond hospital 28 Mar 1865. He was taken prisoner 3 apr 1865 and was released sometime after 17 apr 1865 Pvt. Co I 21Reg NC
Elizabeth Arnold, a daughter of William and Nancy Berry Arnold, married Silas Gaines. Clarissa Arnold, another daughter of William and Nancy, married Reverend Nathaniel Gaines. Both Silas and Nathaniel were sons of Edmund Pendleton Gaines and his wife, Susannah Broaddus. Nathaniel and Silas were born at their parents original home in the Enoree section; and while they were small children, their parents moved to Abbeville County, where the boys were reared and educated by such means as the schools in the community then afforded. Nathaniel and Silas lived in the Turkey Creek Baptist Church community. Both of them became members of this church; and Nathaniel was ordained to the ministry by this church in 1821. He spent all of his adult life pestering churches in this area. Much of his ministry was spent in work with his wife's uncle, Reverend Nathan Berry, who was only seven years older than he. Practically all of their descendants remained in South Carolina and now live in that section.
