   This news clipping was found in the possession of Hope Tharp barr at the
time of her death.  There was no indication of the name of the paper, however, it was probably located in Woodland, Calif. Cem. records indicate that it was printed in 1960.

    An elderly farmer and his wife carefully arranged for a double funeral,
drove 35 miles to the family plot in a cemetary near here and then committed
suicide, authorities discoved today.
    The bodies of Warren Tharp, 84 and his wife Emma, in her 70's were
discovered in their car parked 20 feet of where they will be buried.
    Cemetery caretaker Ernest Lemenager said the couple apparently had used a garden hose to pipe exhaust fumes into the car.
  Authorities said the Tharps had been living in Woodland. On Thurday, the
husband went to a funeral parlor and made arrangements for double services, to be held in the event of the couple's death.  He did it in such a manner that the funeral director was not supicious.
    A note found in the couple's car asked that a sister of Mrs. Tharp in

Harry Poffenberger THARP

  He was a motorcycle policeman in Sacramento, Calif.  Following an
investigation of corruption in the department, he left the force, and the city of Sacramento.  He opened a bar, "The Bear Club", in Chester, Plumas Co., Calif.  Chester, at that time was a wide open town, with gambling, etc, drawing customers from the surrounding company owned, mill towns.  Harry kept a bear on the premises (hence the name of the bar), and wrestled it, for the
entertainment of his customers.  The Bear Club was across the street from Hope Tharp and Troy Barr's barber shop.  He was a motorcycle policeman in Sacramento, CA. Chester, at that time was a 'wide open town', with gambling, etc., drawing customers from the surrounding company owned, mill towns.  Harry kept a bear on the premises (hence the name of the bar), and wrestled it, for the entertainment of his customers.  The Bear Club was across the street from Troy & Hope (Tharp) Barr's barbershop.  According to Hope & Troy, Harry was one of his own best customers, and died when he passed out, drunk, in a snowbank.
