Was a carpenter before he enlisted on 1 Oct. 1861. He was listed as a teamster and later as a wheelwright. He was wounded at Jones Farm VA on 30 Sept. 1864. He returned to duty the next month and was paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on9 Apr 1865. He was with Co. L, 22nd Reg., NC Troops, the Uwharrie Rifles". His son William Allen Scott, said his father was wounded 4 times during the war.
Enlisted in the War of 1812 and was discharged at salisbury in 1815. He was given a land grant near the present NC Zoological Park, where the family subsequently lived.
