James SNOW

It is believed that James served in Co I 18 Reg NC Troops.  The men from Surry in this company wre conscripted at Dobson 17 Aug 1862, marched that day toward Camp Hill near Statesville in Iredell Co., arriving there 20 Aug 1862.  According to a letter written by A R Collins, the company had joined Jackson's Army and was in Fredreck Co. MD, on 8 Sep.  The soldiers of Co I 18 Reg were in the Battle of Antietam 17 Sep 1862.  James' date of death is not know; however, it was prior to 7 Feb 1863 when his wife, Mary, appeared in Surry Co. NC, Court and said her husband, James Snow, had died intestate (Surry County, NC, Estate Records).  According to the Jan 1897 issue of "Confederate Veteran", James Snow of Co I 18 Reg is buried at Mt. Jackson, Shenandoah Co. VA.  Pvt. Co I 18 Reg NC

Ezekiel WILMOTH

Volunteered CSA at Surry 20 May 1861.  He was chosen Fifer with rating of Musician Nov 1861.  He was killed1 Jul 1863 at the battle of Gettysburg, PA.  His outfit was on the front line in the beginning of the battle.  Musician (Fifer) Co C 21 Reg NC
