. Four of the great-granddaughters of Hudson Berry married four of the sons of James W. and Emily Leave11. Sallie Gambrell, the youngest sister of James Bruton Gambrell, married Dr. B. F. Leaven. Corra Alice Berry, the oldest daughter of Nathan Manley Berry, married George W. Leave11. Her younger sister, Lizzie Berry, married Fountaine S. Leave11. Mettle Lou Berry, a daughter of Joel Halbert Berry, married Dr. R. M. Leave11. Throughout all the subsequent years, the Berrys, the Gambrel's, and the Leavells, who were closely related by blood and marriage, were intimately associated in the business, the educational, and the religious life of Mississippi and Texas.
As has been mentioned before Corn Alice married George W. Leave11; and Lizzie married Fountaine S. Leave11. Both of these brothers were reared on a nearby farm and both served with distinction during the Civil War.
In 1874, George and Corra Alice and Fountaine and Lizzie moved to Oxford, Mississippi, where together they engaged in the mercantile business under the firm name of Berry and Leavell Brothers. Their father-in-law, Major Nathan Manley Berry, was their partner.
Their children were Dorr Derrick, born November 8, 1889 and Claude Franklin, born April 14, 1893, died May 12, 1893. Dorr married Mary Belle Allen, November 29, 1913 after graduating from Manhattan Business College and two years in K. S. A. C. Their children are Daryl Derrick, born December 6, 1914, graduate of Manhattan High School and the Kansas State College. He won his first scholarship from Manhattan High and also several prizes in college judging contests. The second child of Dorr and Mary Belle was Allen Dwight, born August 15, 1916 and passed away March 30, 1932. Keith born September 10, 1918 graduated from Manhattan High School in 1935. Duane, born July 2, 1925 is in the 7th grade in College Hill District School, Manhattan.
John Elliott Wilson finished high school and was dependable clerk for several years in Fred Deidrichs clothing store in Washington. He married Beatrice Powell, a teacher, and bought out a cleaning establishment in Tecumseh, Nebraska. They have one son, John Elliott Wilson, called Jack, a very earnest, energetic lad of eight, born November 20, 1928. John is interested in the civil and political affairs. He is a member of the school board and has the considerate yet firm decisions of his mother.
