He attented the LaRue, Ohio, High School and the Ohio Northern University(then Ohio Normal University). He then taught school in the winter and farmed in the summer until 1890. After his marriage he located on the eight hundred acre farm now (in 1955) owned by his son William. This was the farm formerly owned by his father's brother, Isaac Frazier Guthery, and lived on by him (Isaac Frazier) before he moved to Marion, Ohio, which preceded his eventual move to Nebraska. Isaac Sherman (known as Sherm) was for several years president of the Campbell National Bank of LaRue, Ohio. He was also prominent politically, serving terms in the Ohio Legislature. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge.

William Alexander was born 3 May 1874 in Stockdale, Pike County, Ohio son of John W. and Margarette Alexander. He married Libby Beauchamp Anderson 4 April 1896 in Pike County by Eli Halterman, J.P. Libby was born 26 September 1878, daughter of John V. Anderson and Martha Jane Bennett, in Stockdale, Pike County, Ohio. Both William and Libby are buried in Memorial Burial Park, Scioto County, Ohio, Section #2. Lot #123. William was a carpenter, working in Stockdale and most of his career in Portsmouth, Ohio, last for the first Federal Savings and Loan Association. Their children were:

died: 19 Oct 1901William and Libby Alexander lived in Stockdale and Portsmouth, Ohio, where their home was 1402 Ninth Street and 1329 Eleventh Street. The Latter home was remodeled by William into a separate upstairs apartment. After his retirement, they move to Egbert Stop, Porter Township, Wheelersburg, Ohio near their son Vancil. Libby died 25 November 1948 and William died on the 14th of August 1954.
John M. Alexander, born 19 June 1847, probably in Pennsylvania, son of Steward and Sarah Ann Alexander, died 21 May 1913, Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohi; married Margarette Adams.
John was a carpenter by occupation, and was a member of the Methodist Church. The family live in and around Stockdalem Pike County, Ohio at the time of his death, which was due to malaria fever, brought o0n by the contaminated water drunk during the 1913 Ohio River Flood. His wife died 4 July 1890, and both of them are probably buried in the Adams Family Cememtery, Stockdale, Pike County, Ohio. Their Children were:

The U.S. Census dated 8 June 1880, Scioto County, Ohio records a John M. Alexander as living in Madison Township (Madison Twp. borders on southern Pike County) and indicate that John, his father and mother were all born in Pennsylvania (?), with all children born in Ohio no occupation is shown.
