Jacoba, "Colbie" Hiatt, belvoed wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, died peacefully at home September 29, 2001, of natural causes. Cobie was born in Elderwalde, Drente, Netherlands, on Aug. 19, 1922, to Jacob and Tryntje Strikwerda. The family came to America while Cobie was still a baby. She married Cleo E. "Bud" HIATT on Nov. 13, 1941, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had 5 children, 31 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren with four more expecting soon.
Cobie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS al her life and held many positions in the Church. She especially enjoyed serving a mission with "Bud" in Arizona and they worked togeterh in the Boise Temple. Cobie was a great homemaker and an excellent cook. Her pies were famous amoung friends and family. She loved to play games and could beat everyone at Scrabble.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, a grand daughter in law, Karen Eckersell, a brother, Jake and a sister, Barbara.
Survivors include her husband, Bud HIATT; her son, Robert "Bob" of Idaho Falls; her daughters, Irene Echersell of Rexburg, Dauina Rydaich of Nampa, Rinda Fullmer of Salem, OR and Susan Lindsey of Texas; Her brother, James Strikwerda of Meridan; her sister, Henderina "Renie" Muir of Nampa; and numberous grandchildren and great grand children.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Seventh Ward LDS Chapel, 3015 Sunnyridge Rd, Nampa. A Viewing will be held from 12:45 to 1:45 pm. Prior to services at the Church. Burial will e in the Meridian Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
