Vearl C. CRYSTAL

Vearl Charles Crystal, 92, of Rigby, died Thursday, October 20, 2011, at Life Care Center in Idaho Falls.
He was born May 29, 1919 in Roberts, Idaho to Andrew Vernon Crystal and Bessie Venetta Randall Crystal. He attended Garfield Grade Schools, and graduated from Ucon High School. He continued his education at the University of Idaho, Southern Branch in Pocatello. He entered the US Air Force in 1941, serving during WWII, and achieved the rank of Master Sergeant; he was honorably discharged in 1945. On November 23, 1942, he married Brinda Merrill in Rigby, Idaho; their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on January 8, 1958. Vearl founded Crystal Brothers Rodeo in 1946; he was President of Eastern Idaho Rodeo Association and served as Chairman of the Board of Intermountain Rodeo Association. From 1946 to 1976 he worked as Jefferson County Assessor. He then served as State Senator representing Jefferson County, Clark County, Lemhi County, Custer County and Butte County from 1977 to 1989.
Vearl was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he served on the High Council in the Rigby, Roberts, and Menan Stakes, as councilor in the Grant Ward Bishopric, and as Bishop. He also served as High Priest Group Leader and as a Home Teacher. He was a Lifetime Member o f the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion Lloyd Crystal Post and Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his Daughter, Nancy K. Nucholls, of Moses Lake, WA. Sisters, LeVon Hill of Idaho Falls, ID, Lois Jones, of Garfield, ID, Betty (Gerald) Hansen of Goshen, ID, brother, DeMont Crystal, of Grant, ID, 2 grandchildren and 1 great Grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son Charles Brent Crystal and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2011, in the Grant LDS Chapel 3431 E. 100 N. with Bishop Roger Prestwich conducting. The family will receive friends Monday Evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, and from 9:30 to10:45 a.m., prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Grant Central Cemetery under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.


Brinda MERRILL

Brinda Crystal, 86, of Rigby, passed away May 18, 2008, at East Idaho Regional Medical Center. She was born December 6, 1921, in Rigby, a daughter of Eldon Elias Merrill and Nancy Dinsdale Merrill. She attended schools in Annis and graduated from Midway High School. November 23, 1942, she married Vearl C. Crystal in Rigby, and was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She worked at Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, WA as a secretary during WWII while her husband served in the Air Force in England. Later they moved to Grant, Idaho where they made their home. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Primary, Sunday School, as a Councilor in the Mutual and Relief Society and as a Visiting Teacher. She is survived by her husband, Vearl C. Crystal, of Rigby, a daughter Nancy (Rod) Nuckolls, of Moses Lake, WA, a sister, Beulah Ashment, of Idaho Falls, a brother, Glen (Ranae) Merrill, of Annis, two grandchildren and two great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a son Brent C. Crystal, one sister and two brothers. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 22, 2008 at the Grant 2nd Ward LDS Chapel. The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday, both at the church. Burial will be in the Grant Central Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.

She was under the care of her family and Hospice of Eastern Idaho. LaVon was born November 13, 1923, in Rigby, Idaho to Andrew Vernon Crystal and Bessie Vennetta Randall Crystal. She grew up and attended schools in Garfield and graduated from Ucon High School. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1941, LaVon married Darrel William Sargent and together they had two children. On the day that Pearl Harbor was bombed (December 7, 1941), she was in Los Angeles, CA in the hospital recovering from the birth of her first child, Pete. The family later moved back to Idaho Falls, where their daughter Colleen was born. LaVon and Darrel were later divorced. LaVon was a mother and homemaker; she loved, raised, and supported her children throughout their lives. She worked as a waitress at LeBarons Coffee Shop and also worked at Sweetbriars Dress Shop. LaVon did alterations in her home. She enjoyed crocheting and was an excellent seamstress, and a meticulous housekeeper. She met Rayomd Carlos Hill, the love of her life, at the Elks Lodge in Idaho Falls. They were married in June of 1961 in Garfield, Idaho at the home of her parents. LaVon and Ray loved to camp, ride horses, and dance; for many years, they took tickets at her familys Crystal Brothers Island Park Rodeo. After Raymond passed away in 1982, LaVon moved to Kingman, Arizona, broken-hearted. She lived there for a number of years before moving back to Idaho Falls. She was happy to be back in Idaho and enjoyed spending time with her brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, and friends. LaVon loved her family. Survivors include: Son, Roger Darrel Pete (Nola) Sargent of Idaho Falls, ID; Daughter, Colleen Isaacs of Idaho Falls, ID; Step children, Sheri and Rod; Brother, Demont (Glenna) Crystal of Grant, ID; Sister, Lois Jones of Garfield, ID; Sister, Betty (Gerald) Hansen of Shelley, ID; 6 Grandchildren; 20 Great Grandchildren; and 8 Great-great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray Hill; a brother, Vearl Crystal; two sisters, Nola Rau and Rhea Justin; and an infant brother and infant sister.
