Cemetery notes and/or description: The Passumpsic Village Cemetery lies over the Barnet town line in Waterford, Vt. It is believed the oldest section, by the main drive, was given by Joseph Armington who is buried here, next to his father, in the northeast corner. The main part is believed to have been received from the Woods estate about 1865 or 1866 when the Cemetery Association was formed. The new part of the cemetery was surveyed by J.M. Perham in 1916, roads were named and sections lettered; but, these designations have never been much followed and the original part was not included in the "Section" designations. The newest section was opened in the southern corner and surveyed into lots in May/June 1984; the first burial being made that month. Several Revolutionary soldiers are buried here, also Philip Vermouth, a German, and a soldier in Napoleon's army in the Russian campaign. In 1980/1981 Eugenia Powers (1913-1985) transcribed all the existent gravestones in this cemetery as part of her research for a future history of the Waterford, Vt families; many of whom are buried here with their neighbors from Passumpsic village in the town of Barnet, Vt. The 1916 surveys were not made available to her; so she defined "Sections" starting at the original fence, moving toward the newest addition, using the roads as dividing lines. The Town has since used these Section-Row-Stone/Lot Number designations and "official" plot designations. When I transcribed the post-1981 burials in 2008, I designated the southern corner section "Q" and followed the lots numbers used on the 1984 survey of that section.
