Elizabeth (Underwood) (Taylor) (Slaughter) (Catlett) Butler was a daughter of Unknown Underwood and his wife Margaret Unknown. Elizabeth was born before 1640. Elizabeth Underwood married Dr. James Taylor, from whom she was divorced in 1654. [1654, Surry Co. Record Bk. 1, Pg. 27, and was mentioned as married to Francis Slaughter in the estate account of Dr. James Taylor 1 May, 1655. "She" [Elizabeth (Underwood) Taylor] "petitioned the Governor and Council to grant a separation from Dr. James Taylor, 26 March, 1654 (Surry Co. Record Bk. 1, p. 27) and is mentioned as married to Francis Slaughter in the estate account of Dr. James Taylor, 1 May, 1655 (ibid. p. 35)"] Elizabeth (Underwood) Taylor married Col. Francis Slaughter, Sr. about 1655. Col. Slaughter Francis was a planter of Surry County until after 6 Nov., 1655, and then of Rappahannock Co., where he was a captain of militia and justice. In his will he named his wife, Elizabeth Underwood (Taylor) Slaughter, his mother-in- law, Mrs. Margaret Upton, and his brother{-in-law,} Humphrey Booth. His will was dated 1656/7. Francis was living as late as 3 Aug., 1657, when he was listed in Rappahannock Co. Record Book, 1656-64, pg. 34. Elizabeth and Col. Slaughter had one son, Francis Slaughter, Jr. Elizabeth (Underwood) (Taylor) Slaughter married Col. John Catlett, Sr. in Jan., 1663, in Rappahannock County., VA. Elizabeth and John had four children: Col. John Catlett, Jr. Elizabeth (Catlett) Taliaferro Sarah (Catlett) Taliaferro William Catlett After the death of Col. Catlett, Elizabeth (Underwood) (Taylor) (Slaughter) Catlett married Rev. Amory Butler in Richmond Co., VA, on 20-Apr-1672. Elizabeth and Amory had no children. In her will, Elizabeth Underwood (Taylor) (Slaughter) (Catlett) Butler named her children Francis Slaughter, Sarah Catlett, John Catlett, Elizabeth Catlett, and William Catlett. Executor and guardian of her children was to be Armory Butler with overseers of Capt. Thos. Hawkins, Edward Rowzie, and Mr. Dan'l Gaines. According to Rigsby, Elizabeth was the step-daughter of Col. Underwood), as her 'cousin' (nephew), William Underwood, the Elder… which, by implication, confirms that there is an adult William Underwood the Younger; i.e., William Underwood, Jr., s/o Unknown Underwood, and Elizabeth UNKNOWN, who later m Col. Wm. Underwood, then Archdale Combs. Also note that the above is the only known record which comes close to confirming that Elizabeth's sister, Sarah Underwood, is the same Sarah who m William Pierce. One Edward Rowzie m Mary, d/o William and Sarah (Underwood?) Pierce. Col. John Catlett was half-brother to an earlier Edward Rowzie as well as Ralph Rowzie who m Mary, d/o Daniel Gaines. Also note that no mention is made of Fauntleroys. Elizabeth was a very wealthy lady.
