Sarah Anthony Burriss, a daughter of William Berry, and her husband, Thomas Burriss, settled in the Cherry Creek commuliity and over the long years of their lives were affectionately known as "Aunt Sarah and Uncle Thomas" to the many relatives in that section. One of their sons, Reverend Luther Rice Burriss, was an active Baptist minister in that section after the Civil War. In later years he moved to Texas where he served as pastor of the First Baptist Church at Paris, Texas. Later he became pastor of the First Baptist Church in Brownsville.
