The dates cannot fit, has to be some mis readings, recording of dates, birth marriage, something is awful wrong. How can Joseph be born 1821 before married in 1836 and father born in 1821, only 10 years old. Wrong! And wife, Matilda Myers, bon 1829 and married at 7 years old, no way! Possibly mis read to be no later then 1821 or 1819.

There has to be a wrong date here somewhere cannot possibly be 1829 born, must be abt 1821, has to be, check dates.
This has to be an error, cannot have been born and in England, if son of Nimrod and Matilda. Only way possible is if that is 1837 not 1831, or perhaps a brother to Nimrod not son?

MARRIAGE: Bruce Brandenburg (born2nd@comcast.net) lists a Jesse Camp and a marriage with Lucretia Hosford on 18 Sep 1814 but that would be while he was still married to Mary since she didn't die until 1819. It is possible that as a "Riverboat Man" he might have been a scoundral and married a second time while still married to Mary. It appears he disappeared after the death of his wife Mary in 1819.

In Reply to: Jesse Camp by: Howard N CampDear Mr. Camp
Thank you for your reply to my query. My gr.gr. grandfather was Edward Camp who married Charlotte Taylor as widow Hubble. They had three children, one son, name unknown, John French Camp, Sophia Jane Camp. I am descended from John French.I believe Edward’s father was Jesse Camp, born 4 Jun 1757 to David Camp of New Milford and Deborah Bolt of Norwalk. I have a copy of the actual registry from New Milford. Jesse seems to have married Anah Sherwod, 4 Jan 1774 and a Miss Mellor 14 Nov 1774. Jesse was in the Connecticut. census of 1800 and 1810, but not after 1810. There is a Jesse Camp in 1820, and 1830 in Alexander Township, Athens Co. Ohio. He died in 1833 at 76 years of age. Undoubtedly, the same man as son of David and Deborah Camp.
There are several connections which indicate that he was the father of Edward Camp, born abt 1800 in Connecticut What I lack is any proof. I have written to the Connecticut State Library and although I have records of several land transfers between Jesse and his father and later brother David, other than the census’ which don’t name the children, I don’t know the names of any of his children. This is what I would like to find out.
If you have any knowledge of Jesse’s children, I would be most grateful. It is clear who Jesse’s parents were, and that a Samuel Camp, mason, was the father of David Camp. I don’t know Samuel’s wife’s name. There are several Samuel Camps who were founders of New Milford Conn. It is also difficult to figure out who Samuel Camp;s parents were. Again, any information you may have would be most helpful.

“Death place of Jesse Camp” is a scan of a slip of paper found among other Camp & Hosford letters, diaries, etc. It appears to say, "Jesse Camp died at fort Gibson near Natchez on the byor pear."
---
A Google search for "Fort Gibson" shows only one - in Oklahoma.
---
There is a Natchez in Louisiana, but it appears to be quite a small place and nowhere near Fort Gibson, OK.
---
Natchez, Mississippi lies on the Mississippi River, about 40 miles south of Port Gibson, and Bayou Pierre is a section of the river which flows past Port Gibson. Byor (or byou) pear is most likely a misspelling of that name. When all the pieces are put together I'm convinced Port Gibson is where Jesse died. As to how he died, it could have been almost any cause. Some type of accident on the water seems very likely, but disease is also very possible. Research about boating in that area at that time also states that it wasn’t uncommon for flat boat men to be robbed and killed as they returned home on foot along the Natchez Trace with the money they had earned selling their products. We know that Jesse bought products and transported them by boat to be sold elsewhere. Although we don’t know for sure what kind of boat he had or that he walked home, it’s still possible he suffered that kind of unfortunate death. A notice of his death, whatever the cause, might be found in some newspaper local to Port Gibson.
---
Since John Camp (who was living in CT) was the administrator of his father's will (rather than Jesse Jr, who is the oldest and lived in OH), it seems likely that Jesse predeceased his father.
---
There are family trees on Ancestry.com which show a death year of 1830 and another of 1856, but neither had an exact date, nor a source for those years.
---
Vital records on Ancestry show a Jesse Camp married Nancy Cox in Claiborne County, MS in 1821.
Furthermore, an 1822 census of births & deaths in Claiborne Co. show Nancy Camp as the head of a household in which there was one birth and one death. If it was the baby who died, rather than Jesse, then Nancy wouldn’t have been listed as the head of household.
---
Additionally, Jesse’s (ex?)wife Lucretia died in 1823 and a letter from his ex-sister-in-law to her mother in 1825 says that she and her husband are willing to take in “the boy” (one of Jesse’s sons ) and raise him. They were probably referring to the youngest, Jesse Bradley, but they took in all three of his children. Polly was already with them when her mother was ill. It’s possible that Jesse didn’t care about his children, but it seems more likely that the reason he didn’t take them after their mother’s death was because he wasn’t living either.

Mellor is a relatively small village that runs along a tributary of the River Goyt. It extends from the start of the old turnpike road at the boundary of Marple Bridge to the current Cheshire/Derbyshire border. Mellor has only a few shops remaining, as most people now shop in Marple Bridge, Marple,(Greater Manchester) or further afield. It has a golf course, several tennis courts and a riding school. As with virtually all towns and villages in Britain - United Kingdom, there is a World War I memorial, situated in a semi-private area at the very heart of the modern village. Farmland takes the bulk of the remaining space. A number of farm buildings and Mellor Hall date back to the late 17th century, and were built on ruins of earlier buildings, illustrating the long-standing importance of agriculture to Mellor. The village was in the county of Derbyshire until 1936 when it was reassigned (along with the neighbouring village of Ludworth) to the county of Cheshire. On the creation of Greater Manchester, Mellor became a part of Stockport metropolitan borough.
