According to some contacts in Floyd Co. VA. the name is also spelled Helton, and I received a lot of information from them. I don't know if there is a connection to the Hilton bunch.


Matthew Jr. Colonel COX

Matthew Cox b. 1735 Essex Co. Virginia. This Matthew Cox was in Colonel George Washington's Command in the Virginia Militia at the Battle of General Braddock's Defeat during the French and Indian War. He was with the command that brought the General's body back into the Winchester area near the Hiatt farms on Apple Pie Ridge, northwest of Winchester, VA. This Matthew was also under General George Washington's command during the Revolutionary War. He is a 6th Great-Grandfather.
