Tradition is that the infant, William, was cared for by a Rev. McDaniel

Notes for WALTER DE BERKELEY:
Sir Walter de Berkeley, Knight, Baron of Towie Aberdeen was the first of the family and a burgess of Perth. After accompanying his elder brother on the Welsh Mission, he was taken prisoner at the battle of Dunbar, 27th April 1296, and was one of the Scottish Knights imprisoned in Berkhamstead Castle, Bedfordshire, on 31st May, following. On 1st August 1322, he received a Crown Charter of the lands and barony of Towie, in which he is styled "of Kerko" from an estate owned by the Berkeleys in the Carse of Gowrie, Perthshire. In 1322, Sir Walter also received a Crown Charter of the lands of Kainzie, in the Thaneage of Ballhelvie. The Baron was Sheriff of Aberdeen in 1323.

Notes for PATRICK DE BERKELEY:
Sir Patrick Berkeley, Knight, Thane of Balhelvie, Co. Aberdeen, who was Great Chamberlain of Scotland between 1280 and 1288. He signed the Ragman Roll in 1296, and was afterward said to have been a friend of Sir William Wallace. Sir Patrick was father of two sons, who were styled "Hug (Hugo) et Walter de Berkeleya Fratres."
