Donald Young Jr., 44, of Parsons died at 12:02 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, at his home. He had been in
failing health.
He was born Nov. 18, 1961, in Enid, Okla., to Donald L. and Gloria R. (Streich) Young. He moved with his
family to Parsons, where he attended elementary and junior high school. He moved with his family to
Wichita, where he graduated from Wichita West High School and attended Wichita State University. He later
moved to Fort Worth, Texas to attend seminary. He returned to Parsons in 1995, when he became an ordained
minister. He was co-pastor of New Day Southern Baptist Church. He started Parsons Independence Baptist
Church in 1996. He later moved to Washington, returning to Parsons in March.
He enjoyed science fiction, theology, cooking and helping others. He had been a volunteer for The Salvation
Army. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Parsons. He was a member of Thespians International
and Lewiston (Idaho) Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, No. 896.
He married Pamela A. Harrington on Dec. 17, 1983, in Wichita. They were later divorced.
He married Linda Tuning on Sept. 11, 1999, in Lewiston, Idaho. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Donald L. Young III and his wife, Christina, of Valley Center; a daughter, Kara
Jean Young of Wichita; a stepson, David T. Shorb and his wife, Mandy, of Portland, Ore.; two stepdaughters,
Tina Tuero of Salt Lake City and Melinda Rustemeyer of Clarkston, Wash.; a grandson, Donald L. Young IV;
seven stepgrandchildren, Rayven Rustemeyer, Josefina Hernandez, Manuel Hernandez, all of Clarkston,
Wash., and Michella, Michael, Lorraina and Trinity Tuero, all of Salt Lake City; his father and stepmother,
Donald L. and Christine Young of Thayer; his mother, Gloria Young of Parsons; a brother, Greg Young and
his wife, Diane, of Oswego; a sister, Deborah Quinzy-Russ and her husband, Verdale, of Parsons; three
stepsisters, Catherine Wallace of Bartlesville, Okla., Linda Byfield of Fairview, Okla., and Deborah Moore of
Thayer; his mother-in-law, Phyllis Tuning of Lewiston, Idaho; his father-in-law, David Tuning of Medford,
Ore.; and two sisters-in-law, Sandra Tuning of Lewiston, Idaho, and Elisa Rodgers of Duluth, Ga.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hamilton Chapel United Methodist Church in Parsons with
the Rev. Lewis O. Smith officiating.
