RICHARD HENRY BEEBE
Richard Henry "Dick" Beebe of Eugene died Sept. 12 at the age of 60. He was born on Dec. 23, 1928 in Greenleaf, Id. to Glen and Fannie Beebe and received his high school diploma from Greenleaf Academy. He attended George Fox College in Newberg and on June 2, 1951 married Norma Dillon.
He served in the U. S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps in both California and Maryland and then moved with his wife to Eugene where he earned a masters degree in education. He taught in Glenwood and Pleasant Hill and in 1959 was hired by the Crow-Applegate-Lorane school district as teacher and principal. He became superintendent of the school district in 1980.
He was a founding member of the Eugene Friends Church and served for 16 years as presiding clerk of the denomination's Northwest Yearly Meeting. He also served several terms as clerk for the local church. He was known by his fellow church members as one who sought potential in others then took them under his wing and nurtured it. He was a familiar sight in the church foyer on Sunday mornings where he greeted his fellow members with warmth and enthusiasm.
He was a past member of the board of trustees of George Fox College and was current chairman of that school's committee for religious life and student affairs.
In addition to his wife Norma, he is survived by son Richard and wife Patti of Salem, son Terry and wife Kathy of Camano Island, Wash., son Gayle and wife Pam of Sherwood, daughter Londa Rochholz and husband Tim of Eugene; granddaughters Jamey, Courtney and Karley Beebe of Camano Island, Wash. and Ashley and Lauren Rochholz of Eugene; brother David and wife Ruth of Adrian, brother Rex and wife Kathryn of Idaho Falls, sister Helen Traver and husband John of Portland, and brother Ralph and wife Wanda of Newberg.
