Thomas Taylor(#1) was the sixth child of John and Elizabeth Taylor both of whom emigrated to Virginia in about 1648. Thomas came to the colonies under the "Headright System" under which persons who transported colonists to Virginia were rewarded with grants of land. He arrived in Virginia in 1650, two years after his parents came, transported by Richard Tye and Charles Sparrow of Charles City County, Virginia. On that same ship was Thomas Chappell. Chappell's grandson, another Thomas, who became the first husband of Thomas Taylor's(#3)wife, Elizabeth Ann (Jones/Chappell). On March 20, 1662 Thomas Taylor (#1) patented 281 acres of land on the North side of the James River near Kings Island.
