Served in the U.S. Army, Company L, 1st Infantry as Private First Class.
Battles and Campaigns - New Guinea, Luzon.
Decorations and Citations:  World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, AP Theater Ribbon with two bronze service stars and one bronze arrowhead.  Philipine Liberation Ribbon and one bronze star.  First song he heard when arrived back in the U.S. was "Sentimental Journey".  During war was nearly hit by enemy artillery shell, was dazed and found himself behind enemy lines without his rifle.  During mail call one of his friends was hit by an artillery shell while reading mail outside of the fox hole by a tree.  Dad said there was nothing left of him.
