HE WAS COUNTY COMMISSIONER FOR FOUR YEARS,AND POSTMASTER AT THE DELK POST OFFICE FOR EIGHT YEARS.
HE WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN HELPING TO ESTABLISH THE BANK AT PILOT MOUNTAIN IN 1914,AND SERVED ON IT,S BOARD OF DIRECTORS UNTIL HIS DEATHHE DIED AT AGE 102 YEARS OLD.

Our beloved Linda returned home to Our Heavenly Father on January 30, 2000.
Linda was born December 5, 1959 to Dean Owen and Wanema C. Butcher. Married Gene D. Smith on April 10, 1992 joining two beautiful families together.
Linda joined the U.S. Navy in 1978. Retired 20 years later with the rank of Chief Petty Officer and many service medals and awards. She started a support group on the internet for children with Congenital Heart Defect (CHD). With this organization and others they have declared February 14th as National CHD Awareness Day. President Clinton is expected to sign this also. Linda loved her family dearly and if she knew her time here on this earth was going to be over so soon, she would have gladly donated her heart to her son, A.J., who has CHD and is awaiting a heart transplant.
Survived by her husband; six children, Patricia, Kathren, Erin and Glenn, Billie Jo, Michael and A.J.; one grandson, Alan; her parents and siblings, Acael-Ray and Vickie Butcher, LaDean Walker, Loretta and Doug Stewart, Loa Dawn and Rex Ledbetter, Dennis and Joyce Butcher, Arnold Butcher; and grandmother, Pearl Chivers.
Interment, North Carolina.
