Joel Ammon Lindsey, 86, passed away at home Friday, March 12, 1999, in Orem, Utah.
He was born Jan. 2, 1913, in Kelsey, Texas to James Robert Lindsey
and Matilda Jane Caroline McKnight Lindsey.
He married Sarah Ardella Rich on June 1, 1935 in Price, Utah; later
solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. She passed away in 1958. He
married Dahlia Louise West on April 20, 1959. She died in 1986. He
married Frances Cook Fordham on Sept. 12, 1987.
Ammon grew up in Texas and East Carbon, Utah. He raised his family
in Columbia, Utah, working in the coal mines of the area. He moved to
Orem in 1960 and worked as a correctional officer at the Utah State
Prison until his retirement in 1979. During his retirement years, Ammon
worked at the Utah Valley Fruit Growers. Familyi and work were the
most important parts of his life.
He enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially basketball. He and his
brothers formed the Lindsey Brothers' basketball team and took all
corners. He spent many afternoons and evenings attending BYU
basketball and football games with his brother, Ollie. He was a faithful
member of the LDS Church, serving in many capacities, including
Branch Presidency, High Priest Group Leader and faithful Home
Teacher. He was happiest while helping and serving others.
He is survived by his wife, Frances, (and her families), two sons,
James (Elaine) Lindsey of Brigham City, Utah; and Wayne (Marjorie)
Lindsey of Payson, Utah; daughter-in-law JoAnn Lindsey of Santa
Clara, Utah; and sister Ann (John) Diamanti of Helper, Utah.
Seventeen grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his parents, wife Ardella, wife Louise, son
Douglas, six brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at 11 a.m. in
the Hillcrest 4th Ward Chapel, 440 E. 800 South, Orem. Friends may
call Monday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495
S. State St., Orem, and also one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. in the Price City Cemetery.
