Volunteered at Surry 5 Jun 1861 when he was 18. He suffered a wound in the knee and shoulder 25 May 1862 at Winchester, VA. He suffered wounds again around Manassas, VA, and was back on duty by 1 Mar 1863...No records aftesr 10 Nov 1864....Giles returned home to become one of the leading citizens of the community. He founded Whitaker's Chapel Church near Pilot Mountain.
