William was the immigrant ancester of the Stone family to America coming to Virginia in 1633. He later moved to Maryland, where he became the first Protestant governor of Maryland in 1648...following the first two Lords Baltimore, and he put through the first law for religious freedom in America.
He was the 3rd Proprietary Governor of the State of Maryland. He was appointed by Lord Baltimore...It isn't certian when he came to America, but it is known that he was in America in 1633. When he died in 1659 or '60, his will indicated that he owned three thousand Acres of Land.This man was the first individual of our linage to be in America from
England.
Her will was proved July 15, 1675. This questions a death date of 1661.

Thomas came to Jamestown, VA in 1697 and was for 30 years captain of the Jamestown Guard.

A parish called de Twiston in Lancashire a few miles from York-
shire.The Geneology from John Stone and Mary Corder back to Wm.Stone
de TWISTE was given to me by Erma Besbeck (Stone) the Daughter
of D.A. Stone and niece of Joseph Edgar Stone. This date 10/25/88
