Volunteered for service 4 May 1861 at Dobson ...He served the entire war and was present at the surrender at Appomattox cour House 9 Apr 1865.

Solomon G GATES

Volunteered with his brother, Albert, at Dobson 4 May 1961..  He suffered a wound at Gettysburg 3-4 Jul 1863 and was taken prisoner there.  He was a POW at Fort McHenry, MD; Fort Delaware, DEL and Point Lookout, MD.  He died at the latter 16 Jan 1864..
