A forge laborer at Ararat in 1860 and living with an uncle, Lewis Dunagan....Volunteered at Surry 20 May 1861 at Mt. Airy.... Marched to Danville, VA to camp; then entrained for Richmond; then Battle of First Manassas in VA. The company was not involved in the fight but guarded Mitchell's Ford. He was sick at Camp Rhett and was left there either sick or to help the sick when some others moved to a healthier camp. He had the mumps and was in a Richmond hospital Mar 1862. He died 30 Jan 1863 aat Guinea Station, reason not given. Effects $20.65.
