Nephi Atwood
Nephi Terrel Atwood, 89, of Vernal, passed away at Ashley Valley Medical Center on May 25, 2001. He was born Nov. 24, 1912 in Vernal, a son of Lenord Noble and Rachel Josephine Hunting Atwood. He married Hazel Afton Richens on Feb. 20, 1933. Nephi worked as a carpenter. He worked building cabins at Willow Creek with the CCC camps and was also involved in building Bonanza. He rode the last western railroad train out of Rainbow, and hauled the first load of lumber into Vernal for the old fairgrounds. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many bishoprics in Ogden and Vernal area. Nephi enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and being outdoors. He also liked hunting rocks, arrowheads and listening to music. He served in the Scouting program over 15 years and loved the scouting program.He is survived by his wife, Hazel Atwood, of Vernal; children, Duane (Judy Lynn) Atwood, Hooper; Shirley (Lee Ellen) Atwood; Bud (Rebecca) Atwood; Kenneth Atwood, all of Vernal; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 29 in the Maeser 3rd Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel. Burial was in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of Thomson Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.Nephi Atwood
Funeral services for Nephi Terrel Atwood, born Nov. 24, 1912 and died May 25 2001, were held Tuesday, May 29, in the Maeser 3rd Ward Chapel with Bishop Mikel Reynolds conducting.Paul Atwood offered the family prayer with prelude and postlude music played by Carol Palmer. Steve Atwood gave the invocation and Debbie Atwood gave the eulogy. Speakers were Duane Atwood and Bishop Kyle Batty with remarks offered by Bishop Reynolds.The congregation sang "O My Father;" and "I Need Thee Every Hour;" and Karen Atwood sang "I Know That My Redeemer Lives."Eddie Slade gave the benediction and Bill Thomson dedicated the grave.Pallbearers were Robert Atwood, Ken Atwood, Shirl Atwood, Shane Atwood, Bud Atwood and Alan Atwood. Interment was in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of Thomson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary with compassionate services offered by the Maeser 3rd Ward Relief Society.
