SOUTH OGDEN -- Lowell Everett Hunting died Thursday, April 3, 2003 at home with his family.
He was born June 20, 1917 in Vernal, Utah to Alson Steadman and Dora Hullinger Hunting.
His early years were spent working with his father in his ranch. Of his nine siblings, Lowell is survived by his sister Venna Bodkin of Vernal.
Lowell married Winona Huntsman in 1937. She died in 1990. They loved the mountains and deserts and spent much time there with their family and friends.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he was a High Priest. He loved the Gospel.
During World War II, he was assigned to build the roads to the uranium mines in Moab, Utah. He was proud to be a "cat skinner."
Lowell owned an automotive business in Vernal with his brother Floyd. "Inspection sticker No. 7 in the state of Utah," he would say. He worked for the CCC"s when young. He worked for the Forest Service and the Bureau of Reclamation. He finished his career heading the gas turbine shop at Tooele Army Depot. His knowledge of heavy machinery led him to many places in the world, including two tours to Taiwan teaching the Nationalist Chinese Army heavy machinery repair. He taught his children the value and necessity of hard work by his example.
His family grieves for their loss while they rejoice in their memories of the wonderful father he was.
He is survived by a son, L. Gary (Gayle) Hunting of California; two daughters, Carolyn (Nick) Jones of West Weber and Patricia Brandt of South Ogden.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist"s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Lindquist"s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
The family would like to express gratitude to the neighbors and great staff of the TCU at McKay-Dee Hospital for their patience and kindness, and to CNS staff for their help and kindness, and lastly, to Dr. Jeff Call for many years of loving care.
