John Jefferson TAYLOR

   John J. volunteered for service 27 Mar 1862 at Flat Shoal in Surry and was mustered in 30 Apr 1862 at Camp Manjum in Raleigh at age 19.  He was in a Wilson, NC hospital Jul-Aug 1862, reason unknown.  Active until taken prisoner by the enemy at Winchester, VA, 19 sep 1864, he was a POW at Point Lookout, MD.  From there he was sent to a Baltimore hospital 23 Nov 1864 and transferred to U s A General hospital 28 Jan 1865.  Rleased 30 Jun 1865.  Description: 5' 5" tall, light complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes.address for nedra hanks

Joseph Manuel TAYLOR

   Joseph volunteered at Surry 5 Jun 1861 when he was 21 in one of the first groups to organize and leave Surry County for training camp after the Civil War began.  He entered service as a Corporal and made Sergeant in May 1863.  At some unknown time and place he was taken prisoner by the enemy and received a parole at Centreville, VA, 1 Oct 1862.  He was taken prisoner by the enemy 3 Apr 1865 at Harts Island, NY.  He took the Oath of Allegiance 17 Jun 1865 and was allowed to return home.  Description:  Fair Complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, 6' 1 1/2" tall.
