George Washington WILLARD

died after being struck by lightning

died after being struck by lightning.  He is buried along with 3 infant sons at Holly Springs Bapt. Ch. Cem.


James WILLARD

Buried at Denny Cem.  on Whitaker's Chapel Church Road, west of Pilot Mt. Surry, NC.  An expanded and almosst all inclusinve listing of this family can be found in the three-volume book, DESCENDANTS OF STRANGEMAN HUTCHINS, by Rita Townsend.


Elizabeth (Martha) COLLINS

Elizbeth died of smoke inhalation after catching her dress on fire while adding wood to the fire in the fireplace.  She was alone with her two youngest sons when the accident occcurred.  She is said to have thrown herself onto a bed to smother the fire with a quilt.  Meanwhile, the boys poured water onto the quilt, causing the smoke which took her life.(Story told by one of her granddaughters, Mrs. Etta Willard Smith in 1984).
