John Larkin UNDERWOOD Sr.

HISTORY: In 1823, the State of Tennessee granted two acres of land to
the Baptist Denomination for the purpose of a cemetery. This land is in
the Southwest corner of the present cemetery. Also in 1823, the State
of Tennessee granted two acres of land to the Presbyterian Denomination
for the purpose of a cemetery. This land is Northeast of the Baptist
land. More land was secured from Judge T. Nixon Van Dyke, and later
more was secured from Thomas Jones.

This cemetery has between five and six thousand known burials. There
are many unmarked graves. It also is a cemetery that has a mixture of
races buried throughout the cemetery.

John and some of his children are buried in this cemetery.
