The 1667 census states that Thomas was 58 years old and Jeanne was 60.
THOMAS AYOTTE (HAYOT)
Hayot is a diminutive name (pet name) of the original name of HAY, masculine form of HAIE, or the De La Haye and the DESHAIES.
AYOTTE is the form of the name taken by almost all of the descrndants of THOMAS HAYOT, in American, one of the first colonists of New France.
THOMAS HAYOT was baptized in 1609, at the parish of Soligny la Trappe, near Mortagne, in Perche. He married 15 July 1629 at St. Jean de Mortagne, in Perche, today the department of l'Orne. JEANNE BOUCHER, sister of the ancestor, MARIN BOUCHER, who is responsible for the biggest number of families BOUCHER in America.
The parish register of Quebec, signals THOMAS HAYOT as coming to the country on 30 October, 1638, arriving with his goods. He was the only colonist with this name to come to New France. Thomas and his brother-in-law, MARIN BOUCHER, were "metayers de la ferme", which according to the little Larousseillustrated dictionary means: one who takes advantage to be a tenant farmer, in place of the owner of a farm, in exchange for a part of the crop and the land. At Jesus-a-Beauport, on 11 June 1646, by agreement of the two, THOMAS HAYOTdecided to take charge of everything.
15 April 1646, governor Huauly de Montmagny, deeded some land to this pioneer, probably the land called Sillery, where he decided to install himself after leaving the fram of the Jesuits. This land was three arpents of frontage on the river, up to the road to St. Ignace.
24 September 1651, the diary of the Jesuits, tell us that this ancestor stole a Sokoquinois canoe and became incognito with the Abenaquinois Indians. 19 August 1653, the Jesuits noted that THOMAS HAYOT was living at Cap-Rouge and that, at this time, he was a member of the "trade Union" and was named deputy of Cap-Rouge.
The HAYOT family is not mentioned in the 1666 census. The family in 1667 is written as being at Cap-Rouge and the side of St. Ignace. Their neighbors are ETIENNE DENEVERS and SEBASTIEN LANGELIER. THOMAS HAYOT is said to be 58 years old and Jeanne to be 60.
Only three children of THOMAS HAYOT and of JEANNE BOUCHER left descenants: JEAN HAYOT, GENEVIEVE HAYOT and ANNE HAYOT.
The youngest of the family, ANNE HAYOT, born 1640, Quebec and married 28 October 1652, at 12 years old, to ETEINNE DENEVERS dit Brantigny, born about 1627, originating from the parish of l'Espanay, in Champagne. Five children were born to this couple DENEVERS/HAYOT and they received a fine eduacation for this time.
ETIRNNE DENEVERS dit Brantigny, died before 7 December 1678, at Lotbiniere.
His widow remarried about this date to Leonard Duborn, dit LaJeunesse, but the couple had no children. ANNE HAYOT died in 1695.Because of the marriage of this girl, ANNE, THOMAS HAYOT becamr the ancestor of all the families DENEVERS/BOISVERT. THOMAS HAYOT died between 1673 and 1675. The manner of his death is a puzzle in the history of our ancestors.
