Albert had gray eyes. When I asked my mother, Sarah, what he used to look like when she was little...She said, "Honey, he looks the same as he does now!" He was 100 years old. He looked like a piece of well worn leather.Albert was born in Five Points, Pickaway Co., OH. on 20 May 1867.
The 4 children that he had with Susan Davis, were the only children that he had. He was married at least 4 times, after Susan died. Sarah Shelly Lucier, his granddaughter remembers her Grandma Martin as being thoughtful and lovable. She says that Grandma Martin could sew little stitches faster than your eye could see the movement, when doing handiwork or mending. And, they were all tiny, even stitches.
She could remember the stories that Grandma Susan would tell.He used to be a rancher in Kansas. In 1903 or 1904, he helped to build a church in Riverside, CA., where they moved when Nellie was a very young teen. They moved back to Kansas the following year. Nellie and Susan used to shake prune trees onto canvas, for the driers. In 1928, 4 years after his wife Susan had died, he came out to Selah, following his daughter, Nellie, and her husband, Henry.
In 1944, he moved back to Yakima, where he a]was a carpenter for many years. He built a church in Riverside, CA., once. Very talented in carpentry.
Albert was a tall, slim man. He sported a mustache. He was such a gentle man, so it's obvious why he had married 4 times. He only divorced once. He outlived his other 3 wives.
He and his 4th wife, Fairy Belle Leedom, lived in a little house behind Nellie's, in Yakima. He moved in to one of the rooms in her main house, which was set up as an apartment. He lived with her, until he became incontinent, and then he preferred the Eden House Nursing Home, instead of his daughter, having to care for him.
Albert lived to be 100 years, 2 mo., 12 days old. He was buried at Terrace Height's Memorial Park next to Fairy Belle. Her family, later, disinterred her to another place without anyones knowledge. So, the empty space was used for Nellie's oldest daughter, Irene. Nellie lays next to her. We found Fairy Belle's grave and took a picture of the stone.
Much of Donna's information stem from the talks she had with her great-grandfather. She says he was a beautiful gentleman. They were too old to have children, by the time they were married. He was 78 and she was 67. She was a neat, well-groomed lady, with a nice smile. Her son, Vernon, was married to Henry Lucier's sister, Pearl, for awhile. Sort of uniting both families?
