John Sherman Tipton; Worked as a tool dresser for an oil company. When the flue epidemic hit Kentucky,
2 of the Sherman's sisters died from the flue. Sherman had the flue, but got to felling better and went
back to work. He had a relaps 3 days later and died soon after. This from William Earl Tioton. The
2 sisters's of John S. Tipton that died with the flue, (in the same house as J. Tipton) were Maude
Russell, Ida Puckett and Ida's baby.
Maude died 11-22-1918 Baby Ova 11-17-1918, Ida Joa 11-26-1918
Elizabeth "Lizzy" (Russell), (Tipton), Hood, my grandmother, was very ill her self from the flue and
was taken down the hollow to some relatives until she got well again. She was married again to
Charles Hood who helped her raise her remaining 3 sons. In February 1929, Grandpa and grandma,
with the 3 boy's moved to Mancelona Mi. where grandpa Hood and Dad (William E.) worked for the
