Asenath Hazel Bogue Graduate
Asenath Bogue graduated from Whitter College at Salem, Iowa in the spring of 1870, at the 5th annual commencement.  She taught in Missouri in 1877.

A letter of recommendation from the Principal, Mr. Woody, Whittier College, Salem, Iowa, 28 November 1870.
" This may certify that Asenath Bogue has been a student in this institution a year and has given her attention to such demands as will qualify her for teaching in our common schools.  She was also a member of our teachers class in
which she showed good teaching power.  We take pleasure in recommending her to any board of education as a Christian woman who will be ambitious to make her school a success.
                                        John W. Woody, Principal.

The two articles above were given to me, Nellie Goodsel by Silas A. Cook in May 1970.

About 1911, Oliver and Asenath Cook and three children, Silas, Wright, and Millie Elma (Elma) left Lyon County and went to Labette County, Kansas.  After Oliver and Asenath died the three children moved to a farm just south east of
Chetopa, Kansas on the east side of the Neosho River.  They has a fairly nice two story house.  They still used coal oil lamps, wood stoves and drew water from the cistern as long as they lived.  They had such nice gardens and beautiful flowers.  It was peaceful and quiet there with the animals and birds.  We enjoyed going there.  (Nellie Cook Goodsel, Oliver's great Granddaughter by first marriage.)
