Nathaniel was Attorney General for the State of Tennessee for more than 30 years.

Obituary from Clearwater, Florida Paper.
Clearwater, Fla.--- " Nat Tipton. Assistant Attorney General of Tennessee for 30 years and brother of Chattanooga attorney, Jere Tipton, died at his home here Wednesday morning. He was 72.
"Mr. Tipton a native of Tipton County, Tennessee retired in 1958  and moved to Florida, Survivors, in addition to Jere Tipton, Include his wife, Maxine, two other brothers, Willim C. Tipton and John H. Tipton,both of Covington, Tennessee, and a sister Mrs. Stanly H. Rice, of Brownsville, Tennessee.
"Mr Tipton was born April 3, 1891, the son of John A. and Kate C. Tipton. He was educated in public schools of Covington and at the University of Tennessee.
"Mr. Tipton, who had a reputation for citing "Tennessee law, not just by cases, but book and page number," served during 15 Legislature and under seven governors. He was considered an authority on legislative matters and criminal law.
"Mr. Tipton began public career as District Attorney General in West Tennesse's 16th Judicial circuit in January, 1915, at the age of 21.
"He held that office for three years and 7 months, resigning Sept. 1 1918, to enter private law practice in Covington, Tennessee. Ten years later, he accepted the appointment as assistant state attorney general, a post which he held until his retirement.
"A man with a photographic memory, he read with unusual speed-fliffing through a book almost as if he weren't reading at all. ( A fore runner of the modern rapid reading course).
"While most of his work was in the field of criminal law, he gave one option in November, 1949-which affected both schools and teen-Agers: That truant officers had no jurisdiction over married students.
