Death Takes Able Attorney
Jos S. Tipton Succumbs; Was Making Mark in Legal Profession.
Pulaski and this entire section was shocked and deeply grieved to hear of the death of joseph S. Tipton... At a local hospital.. his remains were brought to Pulaski and laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery Monday Mar 22nd... Funeral Service were held at his residence on Jefferson Ave..... Prominent member of the bar were honorary Pall bears including the Mayor, E. W. Calfee. The service were conducted by Dr. Robert King , Rev. Dan Graham and Rev D. P. Hurley. Although the funeral was private, a trememdous crowd was in attendant... The whole commun ity feels deeply his death which was sad indeed, as he was a young man Only 29 years of age who by his industry, integrity, and ability had established himself at the bar.... Joseph S. Tipton was the son of W. S. Tipton and Pattie L. Tipton , his mother having died several years ago. He was born at Hillsville, Virginia on December 12, 1896. He was a good student and graduated from the Dublin High School at Dubin, Virginia in 1912, going to Hampden-Sidney College the folllowing year,... where he graduated at the head of the class in 1916. The following year he entered Law School at Washington University and graduated with high horors in 1918, going immediately from Washington and Lee into World War I. He Enlisted in the Avation Service and station for some time at Boston Massachusetts, then transferred to Key West, Florida... where he remaind until the Armistice.
His father W. S. Tipton came from Hillsville to Pulaski in 1920 and has since been associated with him in his practice here ... On October 10, 1923, he married Miss Mary C. Bones, the lovely and accomplished daughter of Mr. & Mrs. C. E. Bones of Pulaski, Virginia, and shorty afterwards built a handsome residence on Jefferson Ave, where he resided until his death.... Joseph S. Tipton was a Masion, Past Exalted Ruler of Pulaski Lodge 1067 of the Elks, and was Vice Commander of the Puliski post of American Legion, and was an active member of the presterian Church,a short time before his death he was elected deacon... The most beautiful relations existed between him and his father, W. S. Tipton. They seemed to be more like brothers than father and son. the Whole community mourns his death and extends its most sincere sympathy to his widow, father and members of his family.
