Tom traveled more then any of the brothers. While in school at Berea he was rovig the mountains when he should have been studying. He spent some time in Florida and other southern towns. Later went to Marcus, Iowa on a farm. Here he enlisted in the  Army 26 May 1918, at Cherokee, Iowa, left for Franch on August 16, 1918. He was in the defense of Haute, Alsace, Franch from October 12, 1918 to November 4, 1918. Records show he was in Base Hospital in Paris from March 27, to April 3 1918. He came home June 3, 1918.
