During the Civil War, Murry Preston  was deeply moved by the condition and suffering of the soldiers on both sides; visited and took food, to be of what help he could, but pressure grew to the point where he was in grave danger. The story as Otha Lee Tipton told it. Murry Preston Tipton signed on the wagon train, going west to California. The wagon had reached Julesburg, Colorado and Murry and another man-seems like Smith, was the name went out to scout ahead. The other man came back to camp later, saying that the Indians had killed Murry( his brother Jabe searched for him.)
It seems that Murry had gone to Omaha, Nebraska for a Protracted Meeting just before going West. There was a lot of plunding, pillaging and raiding going on at the close of the War, and because of it. Susannah (Murry wife)  told Murry to hide their money before he left, in a place where she could not see him hide it, so that if anyone came after it, she could tell them she did not know where it was. Well, he did it and hid it so well that, as far as is known, no one has ever found it and they have dug that farm over a  number of times.
